Statement of our commitment to the principles of the UN Global Compact
ESCP-EAP Paris-London-Berlin-Madrid-Torino

A Management School such as ours has a vast societal responsibility: to anticipate, encourage and broaden the fundamental changes in our society. Sustainable Development has become a determinant factor and thus must be integrated into our mission as educators. Our action, to a certain extent, contributes to the progress and development of society through the students and managers we train.

Sustainable Development has a strategic dimension, and if integrated into development strategies it becomes a means for companies to acquire a competitive edge. ESCP-EAP, as an educational enterprise, functions within a competitive environment.

Sustainable Development is also a state of mind: to define progress differently by "responding to present needs without compromising the possibility to respond to the needs of future generations." This implies a change in behaviour and in our way of thinking, both collectively and individually. Is it not the role of a leading European Management School to point the way?

Be responsible and efficient in your professional, economic and social environment as well as in your life choices. If we transmit these values to our students, we will contribute to a dynamic of progress that encourages the consideration of issues pertaining to sustainable development. Applying them in our daily activities is our collective responsibility.

With the approval of Hugues du Rouret, President of our Advisory Board, and with the support of our faculty, I have decided to fully implicate ESCP-EAP in this strategy through an institutional project entitled "ESCP-EAP 5 Responsible Campuses" in order to clearly integrate the principles and practices of sustainable development as enacted by the UN Global Compact into the educational mission and management practices of our school. I have also called upon the mobilization of the entire ESCP-EAP community - students, faculty and administrative staff - in London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Turin. Together, we shall contribute to the sustainable development of our society.

Director of ESCP-EAP
